November 12, 1938 - October 10, 2025
Obituary
CROSS PLAINS - Kathleen Ann “Katie” McGill, age 86, of Cross Plains, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by love, on Friday, October 10, 2025. She was born on November 12, 1938, in Dodgeville, Wis., the daughter of Garold and Anna (Imhoff) Kroll.
Katie graduated from Highland High School in 1957. She married Bill McGill on October 14, 1961, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Highland, Wis. She worked for Graber - Springs Window Fashions for many years, where she met many life-long friends. Katie’s faith was very important to her, and she was a long-time member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cross Plains.
A woman who loved fiercely and adored her family, “Nana KT” was a grandma-extraordinaire to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sitting in the front row of every sporting event and recital and always willing to make time to share a sweet treat afterwards. She shared in the passions of everyone she loved, and was most content with a book and fuzzy blanket, surrounded by family, friends, and a roaring fireplace. Katie was an endless fountain of strength and gentle guidance, and will remain the foundation of her loving family. Those who knew Katie will remember her warmth and humbleness, her love for quilting and a beautiful sunrise, and even bigger love of a good slice of cake.
Katie is survived by her daughters, Colleen (Fred) Volker, Kelly Williams and Chris (Don) Dahlk; son, Mark (Julianne) McGill; six grandsons, John (Chandra) Volker, Connor (Lexi) Volker, Bradie (Gillian) Williams, Aidan Williams, Jack McGill and Nolan Dahlk; five granddaughters, Jenny (Tara) Williams, Kasey Williams, Stacie (Kam) Vong, Morgan McGill and Meredith Dahlk; four great-grandchildren, Addison, Amalia, Andie and Veda; sister and best friend, Mary Lou (Chuck) Lugge; sister-in-law, Jane Kroll; and brother, Rick Kroll.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McGill, in 1986; parents, Anna and Garold; sisters, Marilyn (Don) Delkamp, Janet (Dick) Damon and Nancy (George) Goodwin; brothers, Jerry Kroll and Jim Kroll; and sister-in-law, Wanda Kroll.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, with Father Brad Grobbel presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.
Katie remained steadfast as she faced each of three different cancer diagnoses throughout her life. In February, all treatments were ended. She lived each day to its fullest, enjoying all of the simple pleasures of life. We are forever grateful for the kindness, compassion and excellent care she received from Dr. Marina Sharifi from the Carbone Cancer Center as well as the amazing staff at Hospice that supported her the past five months. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Agrace HospiceCare.
