Sam and I were roommates at Minnesota. After our first fall semester I stopped in Middleton to spend an evening with the Kubeks.
After a couple of adult beverages, Jim told me to come to the garage because he had something to show me. Ordinarily this would be a questionable premise but I eagerly followed him out to the garage, where he unveiled his new red VW convertible. We got in and he played U2 on the speakers with the volume turned up to 11.
Years later and as a matter of complete coincidence I married a girl from and moved to Buffalo. Jim, Jill, and Sam and his family came to visit for a Bills game in the fall. I could tell how many meaningful stories and pieces of history and trivia Jim had stored up, it was impossible to digest all of them.
Rest in power Jim!
