Obituary

MADISON - William E. Nelson, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at UW Hospital and Clinics surrounded by family. He was born on November 17, 1937, in Superior, the son of William T. and Verna (Anderson) Nelson.


Bill graduated from East High School in Superior. He attended the Duluth School of Business, receiving an Associate Degree in Finance. Following that, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was united in marriage to Jewell Falk on February 12, 1966, in Blackduck, Minn. He worked for the City of Madison in the clerk’s office and also assisted at the voting polls

.

Bill was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and a proud season ticket holder for the Green Bay Packers since 1963. He cherished spending time with his family - everything he did centered around them. William also enjoyed birdwatching and found great pleasure in helping his wife in their many gardens.


Bill is survived by his wife, Jewell; son, William C. (Dawn) Nelson; daughter, Colleen Nelson; grandchildren, Andrew Nelson, Kaitlyn (Grant) Oswald, Grace Nelson, Liam Nelson and Sean Nichols; brother, Alan (Kathy) Nelson; and two sisters, Jane Christie and Charlotte Nelson. He was preceded in death by father, William T. Nelson; mother, Verna Nelson; sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Shaul; brother, Tim (Nanbeth) Nelson; and brother-in-law, Jerry Christie.

Dear Jewell and family. I was so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing, I worked with Bill for many years in the City Clerk’s Office. He was a great guy with a fun sense of humor and good work ethic. May he rest in peace. Pam Williamson
