Christine Lazar
October 25, 1959 - September 28, 2025
Obituary
MADISON - Christine Mary Magdalen Lazar, age 65, of Madison was called to the stars on September 28, 2025. She was born on October 25, 1959, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of George and Leora (Scullion) Lazar.
Chrissy graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, Wis. in 1977. While there, she created the snowball dance that Marshall High School still has each year. Chrissy loved to sing from a young age. She auditioned for FFA in a singing competition and their team represented Wisconsin. That same team was chosen to tour and perform in Europe. She went back to Europe to sing again with the Friendship Force Exchange Program.
She was a strong woman and as a single parent, Chrissy worked various jobs to support herself and her daughter. She worked many factory jobs, went to cosmetology school and worked in the hair industry and worked as a mail carrier up until she hurt her back in 1993. She was very intrigued by computers and earned a degree in computer technology and used those skills to build her own computer. She loved her job at the University of Wisconsin-Madison IT department where she wrote codes for online auctions. In addition, she was fascinated by the work she did with the Department of Transportation Bureau of Aeronautics (DOTBOA), combining her interests in computers, space, and airplanes. The airplanes made her think of her late brother, Tom.
Chrissy was a very free-spirited woman who had eclectic interests and a zest for life. She was very proud of her solo driving spiritual quest to California with her golden retriever, Babe, and the companionship of the many pets she had over the years. Chrissy was a self-described "doobie sister” and a dedicated “Trekkie”. She always loved Halloween but Christmas was her favorite. She will be greatly remembered for her excentric themes of her tree that was different every year. She proudly rode her motorcycle that she won from a radio contest. Chrissy held strong political views and expressed her strong belief in civic action as a board member of the Dane County Democratic Party. Although Chrissy and her daughter joked that she was not the best cook and was even able to burn water, she will be fondly remembered for cooking with love, making the very best “peanut butter coco wheats” that her daughter always requested when she was little.
In Feb. 2022, Chrissy experienced an out of world understanding in the form of a low flying UFO. She became profoundly aware of a level of positive cosmic “universe as a whole” approach to life.
Chrissy is survived by her daughter, Rebekah Leora Kathleen “Boo” Lazar; sisters, Mary Lu Bystol, Maureen (Scott) Vogel and Margaret Reynolds; brother, George Lazar; and 14 nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leora Marian (Scullion) Lazar and George Lazar; brothers, Thomas Douglas Lazar; brother-in-law, Harley Bystol; sister, Kathleen (James) Lee; two dogs, Babe and Heidi as well as her cats, Piper, Cassidy, Sammy and Frog.
A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Family requests for all guests to wear purple in honor of Chrissy.
