Obituary

STOUGHTON - Helen “Jeannine” Selvaag, age 93, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025. She was born in Crawford County in 1932, on a farm on the Kickapoo River.

Jeannine worked at the Labor Temple in Madison for over 30 years. In her later years, she enjoyed working at Stoughton Garden Center.

Jeannine spent her last years living at Skaalen Home in Stoughton. She enthusiastically participated in many activities there such as playing bingo, tie dyeing, listening to the many visiting musician performances and going to Mass. Jeannine delighted in the outings with her fellow residents to the local humane society to play with puppies and to see holiday lights around town. The staff at Skaalen took great care of her, helping to make her last years fun, memorable and happy!

Jeannine is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Chamberlain; son, Mark Salvaag; grandchildren, Melanie (Chad Kopet) Chamberlain, Brigitte (Shane) Frank, Shane (Christa Robotka) Chamberlain, Deana (Nick Wieneke) Selvaag, Kayla (Mitch Listol) Selvaag and Shawn Selvaag; and great-grandchildren, Chyla (Tristan Woods) Chamberlain, Riley Chamberlain-Mills, Kaden Frank and Emmalyn Chamberlain. She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Salvaag; and son-in-law, Clyde “Butch” Chamberlain.

She was wonderful to us all. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I gave Jeannine Communion once a month at Skaalen Nursing home for the past years that she was there. She was a highlight in my stop to see her. Always smiling with a real positive attitude on life. Every time I would see her she was reading a new book. May God Bless her and all of her family, I know she is in Heaven. Frank Parkel

I will miss Jeannine. She was such a sweetheart, and shared so many stories with me about her family. Only my grandchildren act as excited to see me as Jeannine did each time! I know she was like that with so many. I am sorry for her loss, but I know that she was ready.
