Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Cynthia L. “Cindy” Brunker, age 67, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at her home. She was born on September 30, 1957, in Dodgeville, Wis., the daughter of Gerald and Kate (Scheifel) Wienkes.

Cindy was always very proud that she learned how to milk cows on her parent’s dairy farm at just 14 years old. She graduated from Iowa-Grant High School in 1975. She worked as a lead adjudicator for 38 years at the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

On July 22, 1978, she married Dennis Brunker in Highland, Wis. They started their life together with horses and dirt bikes, riding to meet with one another during their teen years.

In her free time, Cindy enjoyed flower gardening and spring greenhouse shopping, and she just loved decorating for the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas. At Christmas, she would decorate 27 trees around her house! Cindy was an expert entertainer, hosting Packers parties whenever she could. She was very proud of her home and worked hard to make it perfect.

Cindy was “Gigi” to her grandson, Liam, and she made sure to give him a lifetime of love. In Cindy’s eyes, Liam was a piece of her heart that she didn’t know she had until he was here. She would spend summers with Liam, and the two of them always looked forward to the fall season. They would go to their family-owned pumpkin patch, and Cindy would always surprise Liam with a reveal of her and Papa’s Halloween costumes.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dennis; son, Ryan (Sarah) Brunker; grandson, Liam; siblings, Sheila (Alan) Mittelstaedt of Verona, Richard Wienkes of Highland, Dan (Mary) Wienkes of Highland, Ron (Laronda) Wienkes of Cobb and Kevin Wienkes of Highland; Dennis’s siblings, Steve (Sherry) Brunker of Cuby City, Linda (Dale) Schroeder of Belleville, Jeff (Maureen) Brunker of Madison, Kathy (Greg) Westby of McFarland, Pauline (Kent) Gundlach of Madison, Eileen (Robert) Richter of McFarland, Pat (Sandy) Brunker of Highland and Bradley (Ruthie) Brunker of Mazomanie; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and father and mother-in-law, Harry and Betty.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025. Burial will be held at St. Bridget Cemetery.

Cindy…A true friend whom I am going to miss that words can’t express. I will have to find a new normal without our weekly phone conversations or texts , our trips to Fish Tales, road trips, shopping excursions, etc. I always looked forward to your Halloween & Christmas tour of your home. SO much work but So much pride in your newest purchase to add to your decor. Thee bestest hostess of all your holiday & Packer parties. I chuckle thinking how you were never afraid to speak your mind. Wouldn’t be you if you didn’t. It was Cindy being Cindy. Everyone should know that her family truly Was her greatest pride & joy. Denny, Ryan, Sarah, & of course her precious Liam. A phone conversation never went without her talking about them. Liam was a continuous subject…of something he said to GG..his touchdown of flag football..his love of hunting & fishing just like his Papa & Ryan..or whatever they did when he came to their house. I’m sure GG will Always be in his heart. So, Cindy..although I had hoped we would have had many more times to do all the things we wanted to do…I am SO grateful for the many years we Did have. Great memories will always be there. Much love, Dear friend.🩷 Mar Reeson
