Two months ago today, Mom had a weird bruise and some swelling on her leg. I told her I was taking her to urgent care. She fought with me and laid back down in bed to end the conversation. The next day, Mom’s friend and helper, Marcos, called me to say she had a wet cough. I checked on her Saturday and Sunday and told her to maybe do urgent care please? A firm “NO” each time I tried meant I made the phone call to Dr. Doherty’s office Monday morning. Then Tuesday was the phone visit, Wednesday was the in-office confirmation that we needed x rays and more help. Thursday meant the chest CT scan and the leg ultrasound… The picture of us below is the end of Back to School Convocation day, when Quinn had the lead all day for her biopsy appointment and I picked her up from the hospital. I would never have predicted the hospital stays, then Hospice at home, then Hospice at Ingleside and that all of it, every weird and wonderful minute, would take exactly two months but here we are. I love you, Mom. I’m going through all your pictures and videos on your phone now and putting them on my phone, so I never lose all those memories. You loved babies, and your flowers, and your grandkids so much. And I’m grateful you got language back in the middle of all of this, because you were a great storyteller, too. Thanks for telling your labor story of me and my cute butt one more time. Love, Me
