Obituary

MADISON - On the peaceful morning of September 23, 2025, Loren Jon Kyllo took his last breath, surrounded by loving family members.

Born in Minneapolis on June 20, 1944, to Howard and Rose Kyllo, Loren treasured his close relationship with his brother, Howard (Sandy) and sister, Sharon (Arlo). He found great meaning as a school psychologist in the Stoughton Area School District, often coaching cross country and track throughout the years. In his free time, he enjoyed playing guitar at home and in the church choir, running, golfing and doing his crossword puzzles. Loren was always happiest at home on Vilas Road, surrounded by his loved ones with a Badgers game on in the background. Loren was often found with a good book and a strong cup of coffee. His favorite memories include annual trips to Door County, coaching his kids, and delighting in his grandchildren.

Loren is remembered with gratitude by his wife of 48 years, Grace Kyllo; his three children, Kerry, Mike and Kathleen, and their partners, Nate, Jenny and Nathan. He was beyond proud of his five grandchildren, Emma, Jon, Fernie, Weston and Cass. Loren cherished his close friendships with Grace’s eight siblings and their extended families. He called himself the “designated listener.” He is also remembered by countless nieces and nephews and many close friends and neighbors.

We believe Loren was welcomed into heaven with loving arms by those who passed before him, including his parents; his brother; in-laws, Kate and Dan Hanrahan; and cherished family and friends.

Loren made this world stronger with his steady and gentle heart. He will be missed by all who loved him. In lieu of flowers, please honor Loren’s spirit with a simple act of kindness (and cheer for his Minnesota Vikings.)

A private family service will be held. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Grace, I am so saddened to hear of Loren’s passing. Such a sweet man, with a quiet sweet smile, who loved his family and his children. I will always remember the time he spent coaching them and taking pride in their accomplishments. My husband always appreciated having him as a meaning post at staff Christmas parties, which I don’t think either of them particularly enjoyed. Rest in peace, Loren, in the arms of all the angels who went before you.
