Obituary

MADISON - Scott Joseph Gottschall, age 66, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on March 25, 1959, in Madison, the son of Orren and Marcella (Schou) Gottschall.


Scott graduated from La Follette High School in 1977 and went on to earn his B.A. in accounting from Lakeland College. Having worked for nearly three decades with the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation-most recently as a patient scheduling specialist-he had decided to put off retirement. His dedication to his work, along with the support and social connections provided by his work family, fueled this decision.


Scott was an avid photographer and music lover, especially of the blues. He traveled to various places, with Europe being one of his favorites. Time spent with his family over the holidays was truly treasured.


Scott is survived by his two sisters, Jill (Kurt) Schneider and Joann (Jim) Patton; nephew, Tyler Patton; niece, Carly Patton; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orren and Marcella Gottschall.


A visitation will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025.

I worked alongside Scott in different roles for 24 years. His dedication to his work, patients and coworkers was more than admirable. He was a true professional, but still knew how to have some fun. Scott to say you are missed doesn't begin to describe how we feel. So many stories and memories have been shared, even in our sadness you are bringing us laughter. Two words stuck out to me when loved ones were sharing stories. You were a presence and a legend!
