David "Dave" Haack

MADISON - David Paul “Dave” Haack, age 70, of Madison, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on December 26, 1954, in Madison, Wis., the son of Leonard and Annabelle (Haak) Haack.

He graduated from Madison East High School in 1973 and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from MATC. He married Mary Ann Simmet on July 18, 2008, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison. He worked as an engineer technician for Littelfuse (formerly Hamlin, Inc. of Lake Mills), retiring on April 4, 2025.

Dave loved music and knew how to play the piano. He always had a Sudoku puzzle going and was a big fan of Archie comics. Sci-Fi movies were also his favorite, but even with that in mind, he would gladly sit with Mary Ann and watch Hallmark movies.

Dave and Mary Ann were kindred spirits and soulmates. He was always helping Mary Ann set up her classrooms, bulletin boards and cutouts for her Kindergarten classroom. Dave liked to cook and enjoyed helping Mary Ann bake in the kitchen. He also had a special love for Saint Francis of Assisi. Since high school, he wore a St. Francis medal every day.

Never one to seek the spotlight, Dave would give you the shirt off his back without any expectation of repayment or recognition. Family was important to Dave, and he was a tremendous uncle to his nieces and nephews. More important than anything, he was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed.

David is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; brother, Richard (Debbie) Haack; sister, Barbara Buxton; brother-in-law, Mark (Jean) Simmet; sister-in-law, Diane (John) Schwartz; nephews, Christopher (Allison) Buxton, Gregory Buxton, Jeremy (Nicole) Haack, Donald Simmet, Ethan (Anna Frenger) Schwartz and Adam (Xia) Schwartz; and nieces, Abby (Michael) Hensler, Carlee (Scott) Brooks and Willa (Kay Guyer) Simmet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Annabelle and Leonard; and parents-in-law, Helen and Dennis Simmet.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding and Father Mike Hippee concelebrating. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. A luncheon will follow the burial at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James School of Madison or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
