Andrew Alvin Elmquist

MADISON - Andrew “Nick” Elmquist passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from renal failure. He was in the hospice unit at St. Mary’s, Madison, surrounded by family.  

Nick was born in Escanaba, MI on December 1, 1938, to parents, Alvin and Hulda (Hess) Elmquist.  As a child, the family moved to Cavour, WI. He was later joined by sisters, Sandra and Joyce.  After various jobs, Nick decided he wanted a career in electronics. He moved to Minneapolis, enrolled in classes at Brown Institute (now Brown College) and graduated with an electronics certificate. From there, he worked at numerous radio and TV stations in Minneapolis and Madison, learning valuable lessons along the way.

An entrepreneur at heart, Nick started several successful Companies including Nick Elmquist and Son, Elmquist Electronics, Great Lakes Radio and Elmquist Properties.  Nick married Kathryn Larson (nee McGuire) on August 27, 1977.   Together they ran their various businesses, working side by side for many years.  In later years they enjoyed traveling and spending winters at their home in Henderson, NV.  Nick was a dedicated member of the Freemasons.

Nick is preceded in death by the love of his life, Kathryn; his parents, Alvin and Hulda; his three sisters, Mary Elmquist, Sandra Pukall and Joyce Cambell; and Kathryn’s children, Richard Larson and Kelly Larson Moen.  He is survived by his son, Ted Elmquist; daughter, Lea Elmquist Schuette; and Kathryn’s children, Elizabeth Larson Steele, Steve (Julie) Larson and Ann (Keary Bilka) Larson. Nick also had 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who loved him.

The Family would like to thank Jess Coates for the dedicated care she provided to Nick and Kathryn. Per Nick’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. If you’d like to honor Nick, please consider donating to the Mayo Clinic Family Foundation in his name.
