Beverly June Nickell

Obituary

KANSAS CITY, Mo. / LODI - Beverly June (Davidson) Nickell, age 85, of Lodi, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at home. She was born on November 11, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Samuel Orr Davidson Jr. and Elizabeth “Betty” Florey Davidson.

Beverly graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1957, and she attended Kansas University from 1957-1959.  On July 24, 1959, she was united in marriage to Robert Merrill Nickell in Kansas City.

Beverly shared her skills working in many occupations and locations in her career. She worked as a bank teller in Kansas City and at Cities Service and Oxy Petroleum while living in Houston, Texas. She was the co-owner of Perfection Landscaping Maintenance, Inc. in Lodi and an engineering secretary at Power Systems Engineering in Madison before retiring in 2008.

Bev expressed her creativity through needlecrafts, such as needle-point and crochet. She was an avid reader and an amazing researcher. You would always find her sitting in the computer room researching something she had a question about. Beverly also enjoyed traveling, although she never got to travel to all the places she was interested in. She especially loved her visits to Hawaii and Japan. Every morning, she would enjoy a good cup of coffee in her favorite robe and slippers. She cherished the natural beauty and wildlife around her home, being particularly fond of the deer and chickens in her backyard, feeding the birds and checking on the baby robins in the nest just outside her bedroom. She had an amazing green thumb when it came to house plants, and she could work her magic on anything and it would turn out healthy. Her ultimate flower of choice, however, was the Bird of Paradise. If Bev wasn’t researching or tending to her plants, she would be with her cherished Miniature Schnauzers, Gretchen, Liesl and Gretel (“The Hags”); they were the light of her life. Beverly had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed reading Maxine and Far Side comics. It wasn’t uncommon to get a call or email with a, “Did you read …... today?” May she rest in peace traveling all over the world.

Beverly is survived by her children, Sara (David) Schroeder, Becky Nickell and Robert (Laura) Nickell Jr.; grandchildren, Kori (Justin Volden) Schroeder, Daniele (Steven) Krouse, Kia (Curtis) Glassen, Lucas Nickell and Elizabeth Nickell; great-grandchildren, Micah, Quinn and Westin; and grand-dogs, Kona, Benny, Nickie and Goobie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; daughter, Stephanie Nickell; and her sister, Betty Jean Davidson-Carson.

A graveside burial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Dekorra Lutheran Cemetery in Poynette with Pastor Dan Odden officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lodi Food Pantry, The Salvation Army, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
