Obituary

FITCHBURG / MADISON - John William Walker, age 66, of Madison, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, at his home. He was born on February 8, 1959, in Yakima, Wash., the son of William and Marlene (Muir) Walker.

John graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1977. He attended Shoreline Community College for a short time before entering the workforce. He married Maureen Edon, and they were together for over 20 years, raising two children. John was a successful and well-respected salesman with a career that spanned 40+ years and took him to places all over the country. He was employed at various companies including Tanaka, Rayovac, Batteries Plus and Conney Safety. Most recently, he was a regional sales representative for Factory Motor Parts in Madison. He was dedicated to his work and was very good at it.

In his younger days, he spent nights and weekends on the softball diamond with the “Last Call” guys which quickly turned into a family affair. John was an avid sports fan and loved his Seattle Seahawks. He was also very involved in coaching his kids’ sports teams. He loved to tell stories and was incredibly proud of his kids and grandkids.

John was a fighter to the end and although we are heartbroken that he is no longer with us, we find comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain. A special thank you to the UW Health care teams including UW Carbone Cancer Center, UW Vascular Surgery and UW Health Care Direct. We love you and will miss you dearly, dad.

John is survived by his son, Sean Walker; daughter, Molly (Josh) Pagel; grandchildren, Cole, Cassidy and Hayden Pagel; former wife, Maureen (Mimi) Edon; sister, Danette Johnson; nephew, Michael Johnson, and his family; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Greg Walker; and his loyal canine companion, Kayo.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 12 noon on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

I met John at Jane Adams Jr High in Seattle. His last name started with a W and mine with a V so they had us in the same homeroom from 7th to 9th grades at Adams. We sat next to each other every morning for those three school years and became close friends. John had a great sense of humor and quick wit. We laughed every single day we spent together In high school he was the quarterback of our football team, he was a big, strong, confident kid who never had to look over his shoulder- in addition to being a jovial guy, he had a little bit of badass in him. After high school most of us went our separate ways. As we got older Facebook reconnected lots of us and through that medium I could see that John had become a proud dad, grandpa and that he loved his dog. This here is all temporary, but some of us believe there is something more, something better on the other side of this. I believe we’ll all be together again someday soon enough. Until then, may John’s memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him

I have fond memories of John from Nathan Hale High School. Although he was 2 grades younger in my brother's graduating class of '77 and I was in his sister Danette's class of '75. I remember him always with a great smile and great attitude... a really kool guy. My condolences and prayers for the family and loved ones. May God's everloving arms comfort you and bring you peace. 💔🙏🏽
