Obituary

SUN PRAIRIE - Rose Raquel Francis, 26, passed away suddenly from a medical emergency on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Rosie is survived by her parents, Mark and Beckie; her brother, Marcus; her paternal grandfather, Philip; her husband, Patrick; and her children, Joseph and Andrew. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Raquel; and her paternal grandmother, Therese.

Rosie was born on October 17, 1998, in Hickory, N.C., to Mark and Rebecca (Knors) Hess. She graduated from Deforest Area High School in 2016. She met her husband, Patrick, in her first year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they both were studying music education. They were married on the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, January 1, 2021, at St. Paul’s Catholic Student Center in Madison.

Rosie was a model of Christian living and a gift to her family and friends. Her joy and spunky attitude overflowed into the hearts of everyone she touched. At St. Paul’s, Rosie was a warm and welcoming presence, leading choirs, Bible studies, and the Birge House Catholic women’s community with wisdom, humor, and a contagious faith. Her love for Patrick as both husband and dearest friend made a shining example of sacramental marriage. As a young mother, Rosie excelled in hospitality, especially during kids’ birthday parties and the book club she ran for fellow mothers in the area. She devoted herself to her children, frequently inventing crafts to bring their imaginations to life, and joyfully reflected on the simplicity and beauty of her vocation. Rosie’s rich prayer life, devotion to the Eucharist, and dedication to the Saints are reflected in her children’s love of Jesus, Our Lady, and the Mass.

Rosie’s confidence in God shone in her final year of life. While her husband, Patrick, struggled with complete kidney failure, Rosie managed her family’s needs with unwavering dedication while keeping her graciousness and wit. Her friends and family will miss her bold personality, dry humor, fiercely protective spirit, and tender heart.

My deepest sympathies to all the family! I was blessed to be able to witness her wedding with Phil. I can never imagine the sorrow that you feel right now but hopefully it is comforting to know that she is an angel watching over you now! Much love, Jen Melby

Rosie was the first friend I made after moving to Madison. She welcomed me into infant/toddler with open arms and her wit and constant smile made me feel at home. Her unending love for her babies radiated so strongly from her that everyone in the room could feel it. The room will never be the same and feel empty without her presence.
