Obituary

MADISON - Sandra Schreiber Fulbright of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare on July 31, 2025. Sandy was born in Monona on October 29, 1954, to Richard and Joanne (Olson) Schreiber. She grew up being picked on by her older brother, Rick, who sadly also passed away recently. We imagine Rick has now resumed picking on her, and that Sandy is giving it right back.

Sandy was known as “our fun Aunt” by her niece and nephew, Courtney and Nick. They particularly remember cruising around with her in her hot red convertible and hanging out at her house for her 4th of July fireworks celebrations. The rest of Sandy’s family have fond memories and extra pounds from her Christmas baking marathons, after which she made the rounds distributing an assortment of goods that would have made the finest bakeries envious.

Sandy was later joined in making and sharing these Christmas delights by her husband, Bill Fulbright, whom she married on July 6, 1995. Their wedding reception was a Country and Western affair, and over their 30 years of traveling across the country, Nashville and Branson were among their favorite destinations.

After graduation from Monona Grove High School in 1972, Sandy began a 40-year career at Methodist Hospital, starting out in the mailroom and working into a managerial position as Methodist merged with and became Meriter. More recently, Sandy had too frequently been a patient at Meriter, living with a rare genetic disorder that created many physical challenges that she, with Bill’s support, lived with and surmounted, without complaint.

Bill will miss Sandy beyond what words can express. Her family and friends will miss her wonderful sense of humor, her love and kindness to others, and her teaching us how to live with courage, determination, and joy, regardless of what life may throw at us.

Thanks and deepest gratitude to Sandy’s long-time physician, Dr. Elizabeth George, and her staff, to the many specialists who cared for her over the years, to the caring and skillful nursing staff and physicians at Meriter Hospital, and to the staff at Agrace who helped her on her way at the end of her journey.

A graveside farewell will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 10 a.m. on August 11, 2025.

It was my honor to sit and converse with Bill near the end of Sandy’s life. Learning about their wedding and the journey of their life together was an inspiration. May memories stay deep in the minds of those grieving, remembering the strength, courage and happiness she gave to all. She left you a wonderful legacy — and it was wonderful to learn about it.

The words are hard to find which is a big reason I haven't submitted a message until now. Sandy was a big part of my early life with the friendship she and my mother shared from their time in Madison, WI at Meriter Hospital. From as early as I can remember Sandy was there. She was so much fun, great with my brother Lance and I and her arrival for a visit or overnight stay was sweet relief for my two working parents that were able to finally catch their breath from chasing around two crazy kids night and day! The fond memories I have of Sandy are like the stars, they simply cannot be counted. She was funny and warm. She taught me how to clip my fingernails and whistle. She was a rabid card player (usually Double Solitaire or Euchre) and her smile never left her face. I've always been a big Wisconsin Football fan and the fact that she lived in Madison blew my mind. I saw my first MTV music video at her duplex and rode in what I thought was the coolest vehicle ever with her convertible. Among my fondest of memories was the annual get-togethers with the Schreiber Clan in Bloomer, Spooner and Siren (Indian Head Country, WI). Those events always started a little slow with a bunch of kids just getting to know each other again after a year or so but by the end of the long weekend, it was like we never left. Our time was filled with Night Games, Uno, Euchre, Double-Solitaire, trips to the beach, fishing and every other family activity you could think of. Rick, LeAnn, Caroline, Rebecca, Beth, Nick and Courtney became my extended family for a period each summer and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to make those memories. And Sandy was right in the middle of it. She was the glue that brought two families together to have an experience and make those memories that we wouldn't have had if it not been for her. On the last of those summer vacations, Bill and Sandy were married. I was there and it was glorious. We were all so happy that both Sandy and Bill had found their "person". Through the years, life takes us in new directions and we get distracted by our own paths. But we always kept in touch and visited. Mom and Sandy were a special type of friendship and that didn't change all the way up until Sandy’s next chapter. I would be remiss to not mention the level of love, caring and dedication that Bill exhibited later when health complications continued to affect daily life. But undeterred, they went out and saw the world. It seemed like every other month they were on the road to visit some new area or city. The amount of strength and fight in that woman… my god. And the perseverance and understanding from her husband should be a lesson to us all and an example to follow. In closing, Sandy Schreiber Fulbright was a fantastic human being. She brought nothing but good to the world and I am so fortunate to be able to have her in my life as my Godmother and Friend. While it's impossible to avoid mourning her passing, she is definitely in a better place now and without the physical pain. In replacement of any sadness felt at this time, the memories I have of Sandy I will take with me forever. The hole in my heart is instantly filled with those memories and knowing how much love she showed - not just for me - but the entire Klinkhammer Family. We already Miss You Sandy. Save me a seat up there and have the Badgers game on. I'm looking forward to the next game of double-solitaire.
