Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE - Hattie Loraine King, age 84, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Meriter Hospital. She was born on October 11, 1941, in Holden, W.V., the daughter of Frank and Beatrice Jenelos.


Loraine grew up in Whitman Creek, W.V. and graduated from Logan High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Wayne King on December 16, 1961.


In her earlier years, Loraine found joy in working with gemstones and searching for unique rocks, which she skillfully transformed into beautiful pieces of jewelry. She and Wayne also shared a love for cultivating orchids and had a mutual passion for hand-raising pet birds, which they lovingly cared for and sold to others.


Loraine is survived by her husband, Wayne; sons, Andre King, L. Michael King, and Christopher King; grandchildren, Nicholas (Elizabeth) King and Neenah (Thomas) Wenger; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Frank Jenelos Jr.


A memorial service will be held at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 203 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, with the Rev. Cathy Weigand presiding.  A luncheon and a celebration of her life will follow at the church. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025.
