Obituary

OREGON - Caroline Rose Swenson, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, leaving behind a loving family and a legacy that will continue to illuminate the hearts of those who knew her. She was born on August 3, 1978, in Brookfield, WI, the daughter of Patrick and Bridget (Brown) Flood.

Caroline graduated from Weston High School in 1996. She attended Viterbo University, graduating in 2000. She went on to earn her MBA in 2004. She most recently worked as a Senior Project Manager for University of Wisconsin, Office of Strategic Consulting. She married the love of her life, Zachary Swenson, on September 23, 2011.

Just weeks after returning from their honeymoon in Hawaii, Caroline received her first diagnosis of invasive cervical cancer. With the help of an extraordinary Ob-Gyn team at the Carbone Cancer Center, she underwent a state-of-the-art treatment that, against the odds, made it possible for her and Zach to begin the family they had always dreamed of. Over the next two-and-a-half years, they welcomed two beautiful miracles into the world-Leila Rose and Maizie Wren. Becoming a “girl mom” was the role of Caroline’s lifetime, and one she embraced with her whole heart. Her daughters were her greatest joy.

Caroline approached life with resilience, generosity, and boundless love. A two-time cancer survivor, Caroline lived with unwavering courage, humor, and a fierce love for those around her. Her lifelong passion for bringing people together and making them feel seen, was unmatched. Whether through her leadership as a Cervivor Ambassador or her role as host of joyful gatherings at the "Swensonian Institute of Fun Times," Caroline made a lasting impact on anyone fortunate enough to know her. Everyone who walked into her home became part of the Swenson story - a sanctuary constantly filled with laughter, music and the smell of something delicious in the kitchen. The bond she shared with those she loved carries a warmth that will never be forgotten.

Caroline’s generosity reached far beyond the walls of her home-she was deeply committed to giving back, especially to the cancer community that held a permanent place in her heart. She channeled her love and creativity into organizing events like Couthfest and supporting fundraisers such as Sparkle of Hope. These weren’t just fundraisers-they were joyful, spirited celebrations of resilience, hope, and love, embodying everything Caroline stood for. She also poured her heart into her officiating business, thoughtfully crafting ceremonies that honored the unique love stories of every couple she served. Her warmth and sincerity left an imprint on each celebration, turning them into moments of true meaning and connection. Through every act of service, every life she touched, and every love story she helped tell, Caroline made the world a better place; brighter, and more full of love.

Caroline is survived by her husband, Zachary; daughters, Leila and Maizie; parents, Patrick and Bridget Flood; sister, Emily (Jerry) Koss; nieces, Madeline and Brea; parents-in-law, Randy and Dawn Swenson; sister-in-law, Whitney (Raffy) Marty; and nephews, Bodhin and Merrick. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Mary Brown, and Bernie and Cleone Flood; as well as her uncle, Bob Flood.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Thursday.

I had the privilege of working with Caroline during a professional development session she designed and led for fellow project managers. The session focused on building strong connections with your team and inspiring them to bring out their best—and Caroline embodied that message perfectly. She was a natural leader, effortlessly creating a space where others felt seen, supported, and empowered. It was clear that helping and uplifting others wasn’t just part of her job—it was part of who she was. Her warmth, insight, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone in the room. It was a powerful experience, and I feel grateful to have shared that moment with her. Caroline was truly a joy to work with, and her spirit will continue to inspire those of us who had the honor of knowing her. - Jen Erickson
