Obituary

MADISON - Robert Schroeder, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on August 6, 1943, in Hibbing, Minn., the son of Arthur and Genevive (Thornton) Schroeder.


Robert graduated from West High School in Madison. He worked in paper sales for Georgia Pacific.


Bob enjoyed working on small engines and was the local mower fix-It guy! He was a long-time member of the Eliminators Car Club and volunteered at the World of Wheels Events every year. He would frequently attend the Midget races at Angel Park Speedway with his dad, sons, and grandson. He also proudly supported his two sons in Soap Box Derby racing. Bob loved traveling and enjoyed taking his annual trips to Nevada with his buddies. He was a lifetime member of the Cross Plains Lion Club and built close bonds with his neighbors over the years, appreciating their help and support near the end.


Robert is survived by his daughter, Heidi (Mitchell) Stringham; sons, Troy (Donna) Schroeder and Todd Schroeder; six grandchildren, Kaylee Stringham, Allison Schroeder, Ava Schroeder, Erin Sullivan, Ryan Perry Stringham, and Alex Stringham; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne (Barb Powers) Schroeder, Dave (Maggie) Schroeder and Paul Schroeder; and sister, Susan (Dennis) Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Art Schroeder and Tom Schroeder; and grandson, Ryan Mulcahy.


A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON CROSS PLAINS FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2421 Church St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.

So very sad to hear of Bob's passing, he was a great friend for many years and spent lots of time with Joe and his buddies deer hunting in the north woods as well as ATVing and just enjoying time up north with us. Friendships that lasted through the years started through the Eliminators Car Club and what great times we all had. He was a good friend who will be greatly missed. My condolences to Bob's family.
