Obituary

VERONA / DEFOREST - It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Amanda B. Kraus, age 37, on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

Amanda loved the outdoors, and fall was her favorite season. Rarely was Amanda without her phone. She was usually texting, checking out recipes, taking pictures of her dog, Ember, or playing Pokeman Go. Her passion for animals, especially dogs, was unwavering. Amanda will be fondly remembered for her work and dedication to the Sauk County Humane Society and Shelter from the Storm Animal Rescue.

Amanda had demons she could not tame. For those who did not know, she struggled with alcohol addiction. She wanted so much to win the battle, but in the end, the addiction was too strong. Her passing is a heartfelt reminder to hold those we love close to our hearts, through love and compassion. Her loving smile will be deeply missed.

Amanda is survived by her parents, Michael and Karen Kraus; brother, Brandon (fiancée, Kenzie) Kraus; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved dog, Ember.

A celebration of life with light refreshments will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday July 30, 2025, with a time for sharing memories, beginning at 12 noon.

A special thank you to the DeForest Windsor Fire & EMS and Dane County Sheriff office for their attempts to revive Amanda. Memorials may be made to Shelter from the Storm Animal Rescue (www.sftsrescue.org/donate). Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Sweet Amanda- what a beautiful light you were for those around you especially the 4 legged ones. I am so proud of the person you are and inspired by the legacy you left of looking out for those who are most vulnerable. Thank you for being will to try to meet with me and my dog when she was having anxiety. You and I would've been fast friends but nonetheless- I am so glad our paths crossed and know that you were deeply loved and will be even more missed.

Unbelievable, shocking (what a tragedy) are just 2 of the feelings are zapping through my brain, why such a beautiful, smart, carring young woman left us so soon?! As they say "the good die young" means "mission accomplished" 🤔 as we all have our purpose on this world. Trying to find the positive in all this, but it just doesn't seem fair 😔
