Obituary

WINDSOR - Richard J. “Dick” Schwenk, age 83, of Windsor, passed away at home on Friday, July 18, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born on May 10, 1942, in Madison, the son of Charles and Elda (Kujath) Schwenk.

Richard graduated from Madison East High School in 1960 and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was united in marriage to Marcia (McDonald) on September 21, 1968. Dick worked for Oscar Mayer for 33 years, retiring in 2001.

Dick had an immense passion for life, family, friends and animals. He was a wonderful and generous person and was kind and thoughtful to all he met. Dick enjoyed entertaining guests over the years for games, birthdays, holidays or simply for any reason to have fun, spending countless hours during the warm weather months on the deck listening to music and chatting over a few Budweisers. He delighted in the magic of Christmas, taking great pride in decorating and preparing holiday meals for his family. Dick was an enthusiastic sports fan who loved baseball and basketball but more than anything he absolutely loved Badgers football being a season ticket holder for many years, never missing a game.

Richard is survived by his wife, Marcia; son, Chad (Amy) Schwenk; granddaughters, Christina (Kyle) Frake and Stephanie (Jacob) Salzmann; great-grandchildren, Connell, Eloise, Kieran, Everly and Emerson; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elda; brothers, Charles Schwenk and Robert Schwenk; sister, Shirley Schwenk; and in-laws, Duane and Tootie McDonald.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Saturday, July 26, 2025, with the Rev. Scott Marrese-Wheeler presiding. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. I had the good fortune of working with Dick for many years at Oscar Mayer, and consider him as one my greatest friends in my life. He was an outstanding worker who valued his workmanship and his perfect attendance. He cared so much about his family and friends and Badger football. I will always remember Dick with a smile. Rest in paradise, my friend.
