Obituary
MADISON - Richard John “Rick” Schreiber, of Madison, Wis., passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Born on February 9, 1952, to Richard Schreiber and Joanne Olson Schreiber, Rick grew up in a close-knit home with his beloved sister, Sandy (Bill). He graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1970 after a stellar athletic career in volleyball and track and field. Rick went on to build a life filled with laughter, loyalty, and love.
Rick was a proud and devoted father to Courtney (Kyle), Nick (Rena) and Ryan (Alissa); and a cherished grandfather to Deanna, Nicholas, Kara (Briar) and Xavier. His great-grandchildren knew him best as “Grumpa” - a title he wore with pride - and he brought endless joy to Aubrie, Ellia, Annie and Holden. Rick was also a beloved chosen father, uncle and grandpa to many, always ready to welcome others into his heart and home.
Throughout his career, Rick worked hard to support his family, including roles with Pepsi (40 years) and Veolia Waste Management. No matter the job, Rick remained grounded in what mattered most: the people around him.
A true connector of people, Rick, had a gift for making others laugh and feel at ease. He never complained, even in the face of life’s challenges, and brought humor and honesty to every conversation. He loved the little things - like an early morning round of golf, and Marlboro Light 100s - and the big things, especially his family and cruising the Caribbean, where he found his happiest moments.
Rick’s legacy is one of kindness, wit, and deep connection. He will be remembered always for his big heart, his unwavering loyalty, and the joy he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him.
In honoring Rick’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. The family will be hosting a private gathering to celebrate his life.
