Obituary
MADISON - Robert Charles Conway, age 79, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital due to an extended illness with Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born on August 6, 1945, in Madison, Wis., the son of Frank Conway and Lucy Walker Conway. He attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School and graduated from Madison Central High School in 1963. He earned a master’s degree from UW-Madison and worked in the field of Social Work in Rock County for two decades.
A lifelong learner, Robert returned to UW-Madison full-time and received a Ph.D. in Accounting in 1992. He taught as a tenured professor at UW-Platteville until his retirement in 2011, then continued to enjoy seminars and courses throughout his retirement.
Some of his hobbies included running, cycling, golfing, and picking on his guitar. He thoroughly enjoyed going to movies, plays, musicals and concerts. He liked watching Badgers and Packers football, Brewers baseball and golf. He practiced his faith as a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church.
Robert is survived by his loving life partner, Mary Boyd; son, James (Trisha) Conway; grandchildren, Angus Willis, Haley (Miguel) Blair and Andrew Conway; great-granddaughter, Ella Blair; brother, Patrick (Barbara) Conway; sisters, Dorothy Reichling, Mary Harrington and Delores Conway; sister-in-law Barbara “Bobbi” Conway; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, Don and Fritz Conway; and sister, Margaret Bongard.
A funeral Mass will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. A graveside service will take place at Highland Memory Gardens on Cottage Grove Road, Madison, at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025.
