Obituary
MADISON - Mary Jeanette Steinhofer, age 94, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare. She had been living at Heritage Senior Living in Monona for the past three years. She was born on April 27, 1931, in Ironton Township, in Sauk County, Wis., the daughter of Arthur and Catherine (Killeen) Gasser.
Mary graduated from Cazenovia High School. She was united in marriage to Kenneth “Casey” Steinhofer on August 28, 1954. Mary was employed as a cashier at C&P Grocery Store and the Hostess Thrift Store for many years and was a long-time member of St. Dennis Catholic Church. She enjoyed restoring and collecting antiques, going to auctions and garage sales, visiting with her neighbors, taking gambling trips with friends and spending time at the family cabin.
Mary is survived by her three sons, Bruce (Dawn), Mark (Sue) and Kurt Steinhofer; grandchildren, Christine (Troy) Butler, Joseph (Kelly) Steinhofer, Casey Steinhofer and Andrea Steinhofer; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, Arthur and Catherine; and siblings, Rosella (Emmett) Byrnes, Lucille (Clarence) Sosinsky, Josephine (Joe) Frisch, Bernice Gasser, Marlene Edell, James (Lois) Gasser and William Gasser.
A celebration of life will be held at VFW POST 7591, 301 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
