Obituary

LODI - Steven Patrick Hoerig, age 59, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. He was born June 7, 1967, the son of Marvin and Patricia (Stade) Hoerig.

Steven graduated from Whitnall High School, Greenfield, WI, in 1985 and earned his bachelor’s degree at UW-Madison. He built a long and respected career in clinical engineering, serving Meriter Hospital for many years.  A committed professional and a steady presence behind the scenes, Steven took pride in ensuring that patients and staff had the reliable medical technology they needed.

On April 30, 1994, he married Donna Payne at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lodi. He was a devoted husband and father who loved supporting his children’s activities and volunteering in the community. Steven was an active member of Lodi Rotary and supported Meriter Hospital United Way.

Steven’s passions outside of work included playing guitar and sharing music with family and friends, gardening and yard work, and kayaking on Wisconsin waters. He delighted in small, hands-on projects and in teaching his children the value of service, craftsmanship and a quirky sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Alex Hoerig; daughter, Allison Walterscheit and her husband Jon Walterscheit Jr.; his mother, Patricia Hoerig; three brothers, John Hoerig, Andy (Joy) Hoerig and Greg (Stacy) Hoerig; three brothers-in-law, Greg Payne, John (Laura) Payne, and Steve (Amanda) Payne; sister-in-law Julie Larson; five step-sisters-in-law Emily Payne, Melissa (Rogelio) Caludio, Martje Wetherall,  Cheryl McWilliams, Kim (Brian) Sefkar, step brother-in-law Jay (Kerry) McWilliams; and father- and mother-in-law Bert and Sharon Payne. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Hoerig; mother- and father-in-law, Sharon and Steven Wetherall; brother-in-law David Larson; and step-brother-in-law Mark McWilliams.

Funeral services will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish at St. Patrick Church, 521 Fair St., Lodi, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with Fr. Joseph Baker presiding. Visitation will be at Gunderson Lodi Funeral and Cremation Care from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Those who knew Steven remember him as a reliable colleague, a hands-on dad, and a neighbor willing to lend his time and talents. In the words of Paul McCartney - “In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Reach Out Lodi, Lodi Rotary Club, or the UW Carbone Cancer Center.

I always remember Steve smiling. He was an amazing young man. I had the honor to grow up with Steve and share memories of many hours of watching him play Risk and Stratego with Fred, Robert and my brother Brian in our basement :) My deepest condolences. Beth Kiedrowski
