Obituary
OREGON - Craig Scott Potter, age 63, of Oregon, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025. He was born on April 15, 1962, in Illinois, the son of Joseph and Kay (Fries) Potter.
From the age of 2, Craig grew up and graduated from Kickapoo High School in Viola, Wis., where he played baseball, basketball, and football and was a drummer in the band.
He married Julie Lamer on May 1, 2021, in Oregon, and they were together for 31 years.
Craig’s 42-year sales/fleet career included positions at Shelf & Dining Furniture, The Showplace, numerous car dealerships, most notably Capitol Ford where he developed his passion for automobiles (especially his prized F-150 pickup trucks), U.S. Cellular, Ryder, American Family, and most recently at I-State Trucking.
A perfect day for Craig included getting to the lake with family and friends at Three Lakes, Bony Lake, Mississippi River, Lake Kegonsa, and Sturgeon Bay. Activities included boating, fishing, and being the master chef with hot grates and perfectly cooked protein. For his 50th birthday, Craig had a memorable trip with Julie, Logan, his brother, Al, and sister-in-law, Lori, salmon fishing on Lake Michigan. Spring started with the annual morel mushroom hunt and feast at the Ponderosa on Ash Ridge. When seasons changed, Craig enjoyed downhill skiing and snowmobiling. In 2022 Craig, Julie, and Logan enjoyed a snowmobiling excursion on the Continental Divide in Colorado.
An avid outdoorsman, Craig also loved deer hunting with his family, always looking forward to opening day. Craig took meticulous care of his lawn and property with Julie’s shared vision. Craig passed on his woodworking craft and knowledge to his son, Logan, sharing ideas and completing projects together. Craig also enjoyed coaching youth baseball and was a devoted Packers, Brewers, and Wisconsin sports fan.
Craig is survived by his wife, Julie; son, Logan Potter; brother, Alan (Lori) Potter; beloved dog, Ellie; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Kay.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 12 noon on Saturday, July 26, 2025. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
