Obituary
SUN PRAIRIE - Andrew D. Benson, age 62, of Sun Prairie, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 26, 2025. He was born on May 16, 1963, in Appleton, the son of Miles and Judith (Dale) Benson.
Andy graduated from Rhinelander High School and the UW-Madison. He married Elizabeth “Liz” Blake in August 1986 in Rhinelander.
Andy will be fondly remembered as a mentor and friend, a hardworking, dependable, and opinionated man who was always there reaching out to help others when needed. He was a professional woodworker. Together, he and Liz owned and operated Benson Wood Products, a business they proudly grew over the years. Andy was so grateful to work beside dedicated coworkers who were like family to him.
Andy was a member of the IATSE Union and enjoyed his years with a theater career. Later, he used his skills to help his children's school by running the stage lighting for productions. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and gardening. He often shared the joy of his hobbies by sending photos of the best catch or harvest of the day to his friends.
Andy will be missed by his wife, Liz; daughter, Grace (Chris) Benson; son, Reidar Benson; mother, Judith Benson; sisters, Kristin Benson and Catherine (Nick) Benson; mother-in-law, Beverly Blake; sisters-in-law, Dady Blake and Christine "Kiki" (Rick) Russler; brothers-in-law, Rick (Peggy) Blake and Jim (Aleka) Blake; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Miles; and father-in-law, Richard "Dick" Blake.
