Obituary
MADISON - Jerome Arthur Winters, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Four Winds Manor, Verona, Wis. He was born on July 21, 1936, in Wingville Township, Grant County, Wis., the son of George and Mabel (Nauert) Winters.
Jerome graduated from Montfort High School in 1954 and went on to study Biology and Agriculture at UW-Platteville for two years. After college he proudly served in the U.S. Army. On May 30, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carolyn (Wienkes) at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Montfort, Wis. He worked as Lead Biological Lab Technician for the USDA, retiring in 1991.
Jerome enjoyed fishing, gardening, walking and collecting parking lot treasures, such as coins and other little trinkets. Collecting coins was a huge passion of his, even beyond the parking lot. One of his favorite hobbies was grocery shopping with his wife to find the best deals.
Jerome is survived by his daughters, Sandra "Sandy" (Dan) Stanford and Laura "Laurie" (John) Dart; six grandchildren, Brittney (Eric) Wallat, Nicole (Connor) Davidson, Garrett Piernot, Gannon Piernot, Anthony (Erika) Stanford and Alex (Tara) Stanford; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Stanford and Jace Stanford; sister, Maxine Moriva; brother, Roscoe "Buzz" (Evie Schwandt) Winters; and sister-in-law, Betty Winters; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Winters; parents, George and Mabel; sister, Elaine Timmerman; brother, Carlos Winters; sister-in-law, Laronda Winters; brother-in-law, Donald Moriva; and nephews, Chad Wienkes and Robert Prem.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, with Father Brian Wilk presiding. Burial and military honors will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.
