Obituary

MADISON - Gordon Putney, age 87, of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare, on Monday, June 23, 2025, surrounded by love and memories. He was a devoted father, had a curious mind, and was a lifelong explorer of the natural world.

Gordon is survived by his three sons, Brandon, Barton and Bretton; and seven grandchildren, Bailey, Shelby, Sheridan, Kai, Soren, Beatrix and Matilda-who brought him immense pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carmen, in 2018.

A dedicated mechanical engineer, Gordy found deep satisfaction in his work, capping a fulfilling career at Snap-on Tools. His intellectual curiosity was boundless-he had a lifelong fascination with science and nature. In his spare time, he built planes in his garage, even completing one of the three he started. Whether immersed in a project or walking outdoors, he was always learning, observing, and marveling at the world around him. In earlier years, he also loved tennis, more for the comradery than the competition.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. Those who would like to honor his memory are invited to make a gift in his name to the Foundation for Dane County Parks (see link below) or to plant a tree and think of him-rooted, full of life, and always reaching toward the light.
