Obituary
MADISON - Heidi Stauffer Klasna passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, reuniting with her husband Steve on what would have been their 58th wedding anniversary. She was 79 years old and a native of Madison, Wis. Heidi’s vocation was a librarian, and reading was her favorite pastime. She was a founding member of a book club that has gathered for more than 50 years. Heidi was a volunteer at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in many capacities. She collected angels and is known for her spirituality, empathy and compassion, not to mention her contagious laughter. She had many groups of friends, including a close group of four friends who shared dinner every Friday night during lockdown for over 100+ consecutive weeks.
Heidi spent her summers boating on Lake Mendota and sandbar camping on the Mississippi River with her husband, Steve, on their special boat, “Simply Irresistible.” She loved to travel, and Venice, Italy and Door County both held a special place in her heart. She had a love for politics and cared deeply about our constitution and democratic values. Heidi’s other interests included hanging out with her grandsons, British television mysteries, needlepoint, knitting, crossword puzzles, playing games and watching Packers and Badgers football and hockey with her friends and family.
Heidi had both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She started her career at the UW Law Library. Heidi also worked as a reference librarian at the Middleton Public Library and managed the computer lab at Middleton High School, before working at the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District Administrative Office in Library Services.
Heidi is survived by her daughters, Darcy Louise (Derek Vernon) Lee and Marilu Klasna Stauffer (Bryan Wade) Zoran; grandsons, Gabriel Vernon Lee and Samuel Nicholas Lee; sister, Susan Kathryn (Richard) Bell; niece, Kathryn Bell; and nephew, Bryant Bell.
