Obituary
CROSS PLAINS - Marvin J. Ballweg was born on February 14, 1932, in the Township of Roxbury. He was the youngest of the 10 children of Edward and Clara (Breunig) Ballweg, and the last to pass away on June 18, 2025. His mother died when he was 4. Marvin attended grade school at St. Norbert’s Catholic school. After graduation, he started his farming career for the rest of his life.
Marvin married Norma J. Stampfli on October 29, 1957, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ashton.
Marvin was compassionate, kind and good natured. He loved spending time with his family and friends, meeting new people and finding a connection, cheering on the Brewers, eating homemade desserts, watching game shows, and playing cards with various card groups. Upon retirement, he taught himself woodworking and enjoyed making toys and furniture. Handy and inventive, he was famous for “MacGyver-ing” gadgets around the home.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; four children, Greg (Lorie), Janet, Fred (Stephanie) and Judy (Jay Esser); six grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Ballweg, Dan Ballweg, Ian Adcock, Shelby (Bailey) Keuler, Luke Ballweg (fiancée, Jordyn Sarbacker) and Marina Ballweg; and eight great-grandchildren, Dylan, Quinn, Wyatt, Zoey, Renny, Zane, Tank and Aislinn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and neighbors; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law on the Stampfli side, Ken, Rodger, Lowell and Lavern (Luann).
Marvin was preceded in death by his father and mother; siblings, Silvanus (Charleen), Mellitus (Catherine), Raymond (Marie), Bernard (Bernadine), Edward (Marion), Herlindus (Leonard Kuehn), Marina (Henry Nolden), Henrietta (Gerald Kuehn) and Florentina (Robert Pertzborn); 14 nieces and nephews; parents-in-law, Fred and Nina Stampfli; brothers-in-law, Denny Stampfli and Richard Baumgartner; and sisters-in-law, Mary (Zweifel) Stampfli, Verna Baumgartner and Mary (Huber) Stampfli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025. A graveside service will follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, with a luncheon following at church. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday.
