Obituary

LODI - Frederick ‘Bun Bun” Robert Heil passed away on June 13, 2025, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born August 26, 1943, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Fred graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1961 and earned a Business Degree from UW Oshkosh in 1967. He served in the United States Army, drafted in October 1967, and honorably discharged in May 1969, having attained the rank of sergeant during his service in Korea during the Vietnam era.

Fred had a career with the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in May 2005. He was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly passionate about golf, and enjoyed following the Badgers and Packers. In retirement, he spent six months each year in Lakeland, Florida, residing in a gated golf community where he could play golf year-round. Throughout his life, Fred enjoyed watching and playing sports, particularly golf, and was proud to have achieved three hole-in-ones, two of which were on the same golf course. He cherished the time spent with his family, friends, and colleagues, and was grateful for the many memories shared with his Slo-Di-Go friends, his friends from the State of Wisconsin, and the Badger tailgaters. We thank the close-knit Class of 1961 for their friendship. The other six months of the year Fred and Julie enjoyed the lake life and great neighbors on Lake Wisconsin. Fred formed lasting friendships in both Florida and Wisconsin.

Fred was married to Julie (Licht) for 34 years. He is survived by his wife, Julie; his daughters, Carolyn Nimmer and Bethany Heil; his grandchildren, Carmen and Wesley Voeck, and Jaxon Heil-Dalton; as well as his brothers, James Heil and Robert Heil. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Heil, Sr. and Helen Rose Heil; his brother Eric Heil, his sister, Mary (Heil) Allen; his sister, Phyllis Heil (who died at birth); his nephew, Tim Heil and other relatives.

Fred will be laid to rest beside his family in St. Joseph Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol with a private graveside committal.

Memorials may be given in Fred’s name with your local Humane Society.

Having met Fred on the golf course (no surprise 😀) in the Senior Tuesday League he organized, I was impressed with his welcoming friendly nature. Our friendship grew closer over the years as he introduced me to many unbelievable putts and details of his hole in one’s when we played the storied holes. I will try to emulate his easy going nature taking life as it comes. You’ll be remembered and missed Freddie🏌🏾‍♂️⛳️ until we play again. Tom Storck

Enjoyed working with Fred for a number of years but really liked playing golf with him. Never had a bad day with him regardless of how we played.
