Obituary
MIDDLETON - Marlyn Bero, 81, devoted mother, grandmother, friend, sister, and teacher, remembered for her warmth and joyful spirit, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, leaving behind a heartbroken family and a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Her sudden departure has left a space that can never be filled, but her warmth continues to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Marlyn was the kind of woman who lit up every room she entered - quick with a laugh, generous with her hugs, and always ready to share a story or lend an ear. A deeply loving mother and grandmother, she poured herself into her family, showing up for every milestone, cheering the loudest from the sidelines, and making even ordinary days feel special. She was a multitalented artist, and her photography and quilting are just a few examples of her innate skill to beautify her surroundings.
Marlyn spent her career as a teacher focused on supporting inner-city children, many of whom faced tremendous adversity. She believed in the transformative power of education and dedicated herself to making sure every child felt seen, valued, and capable. Her classroom was more than a place to learn - it was a sanctuary of love, stability, and good silly fun for those who often had little else.
Marlyn is survived by her two children, Colleen Bero-Lehmann and Chris Bero; her grandsons, Grayson and Harrison Lehmann and Benjamin Bero; and her great-grandson, Shilo Lehmann; as well as her brothers, Bud, David and Jeff Zanders.
A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, followed by a time for sharing at 2 p.m. All who knew her are welcome to attend and share their memories as a way of honoring and celebrating Marlyn’s life. Though her passing came far too soon, the love Marlyn gave so freely will echo for generations.
