Obituary

MADISON - Karen Gay Stegbauer, age 83, of Verona, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Legacy of Noel Manor. She was born on October 9, 1941, in Bartonville, Ill., the daughter of Corvan and Bernice (Thompson) Quigley.


Karen graduated from Pontiac High School in 1959 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in home economics from Illinois State University in 1963. She married Rudy Stegbauer on September 19, 1964, in Pontiac, Ill. She worked as a salesperson for Clinique in the Boston Store, retiring in 2012.


Karen loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. She loved to work in her garden, and she had a great talent for arranging flowers. Karen was kind to all.


Karen is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Lt. Col Scott) Janzen; son, Mark (Jen) Stegbauer; grandchildren, Glynnis, Emily and Jack; brother, Chuck (Mary Ann) Quigley; and longtime family friend, Don Ace. She was preceded in death by husband, Rudy Stegbauer; and parents, Bernice and Corvan.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH AT ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH, 1905 W. Beltline Highway, Madison, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Visitation will be held at the church from 12 noon until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Though I did not know Karen, her son Mark and daughter-in-law Jen are good friends. I felt I got to know and appreciate Karen through them. As the mother of two sons, I was touched by the love and admiration demonstrated by his stories about her, their visits to see her, and the concern and support that they always showed. My condolences to all the family and hopes that her loss may be eased by good memories. Donna Van Bogaert
