Leonard Joseph La Rue

WISCONSIN DELLS - Leonard Joseph La Rue, age 65, of Wisconsin Dells, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo. He was born on September 22, 1960, in Madison, Wis., the son of Joseph and Doris Jean (Hoppenjan) LaRue.

Leonard graduated from Cuba City High School in 1978. Beginning in October 1980, he served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard out of Platteville for several years. Through the years, Len worked on farms, building pole sheds, driving over the road and hauling gravel, and as maintenance at the Sport Bowl.

Any day spent in a tractor or a truck was a good day for Len. These last years, he loved to watch what was going on at the potato farm across the road and watching the trucks go by.

Leonard is survived by his son, Benjamin (Danielle) La Rue; granddaughter, Alaina; brother, Mike (Denise) LaRue; sister, Kathryn (Todd) Erstad; stepfather, Terry Cleary; nieces and nephews, Shane, Dustin, Heather, Kris and Sam; great nieces and nephews, and an uncle and aunt, Dick Sorensen and Renee’ Hoppenjan, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Jean Cleary and Joseph LaRue; niece, Jennifer Dietzel; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
