COTTAGE GROVE/MONONA - Kris Oren Nelson passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Kris was born in Madison, Wis., on January 5, 1958, to Clair and Nancy (Beggs) Oren. She grew up in Monona, Wis., and graduated from Monona Grove High School.
Upon graduation, she attended Madison College and received an Associate Degree in Accounting. In her career, she worked in various accounting, payroll and human resource positions with her most recent with the State of Wisconsin in which she retired in 2022.
Kris married Ronald Nelson on August 8, 1988. Her lucky number was 8. Kris had 8s on her license plate, had found an 8-leaf clover, and her kids wore the number 8 on their jerseys. Kris enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed trips to her lake home in Montello, Wis., lounging in her pool, and watching the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Bucks. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her frequent trips to the casinos.
Kris is survived by her sons, Tyler (McKenna) Nelson and Jake (fiancée, Kaylee Tipton) Nelson; grandson, Croix Nelson; brothers, Kent (special friend, Karen) and Kevin (Jenny) Oren; special friend, Mike Taylor; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many cousins whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her father, Clair Oren; mother, Nancy Beggs Oren; husband, Ronald Nelson; sister, Kathy Oren; as well as friends and grandparents.
Kris was a loving mom, sister, nana and aunt. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. A very special thank you to UW Madison Hospital, friends and family for all your care.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. A private burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A celebration of life will be held at DOUBLEDAYS, 4586 Baxter Road, Cottage Grove, beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
