Obituary

BLACK EARTH - Sherri L. Hering, age 65, of Black Earth, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, May 26, 2025, after facing a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on November 17, 1959, in Madison, Wis., the beloved daughter of Ernest and Carol (Schultz) Kahl. She grew up in the Mazomanie/Black Earth area, graduating from Wisconsin Heights High School in 1977.

On November 14, 1981, she married Daniel Hering at St. John Lutheran Church in Berry, Wis, where she remained a devoted lifelong member.

For over 25 years, Sherri worked as an educational assistant for Wisconsin Heights School District. Over those years she touched the hearts of many students and staff.

Sherri’s greatest joy was her family. Her love for them was immeasurable, especially for her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She loved to spoil them and do special things together. She created special memories and showered them with love. Sherri and Daniel enjoyed bowling at Black Earth Lanes, Friday night fish frys and socializing with family and friends. Sherri had a gift for making everyone feel like they were family. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and jovial nature, always joking around.

Sherri took great pride in her roots as a farm girl, modeling a strong work ethic and resilience while enjoying the simple joys of a life.

Sherri  is survived by her husband, Daniel; daughter, Michelle (Jeremy) Slaney; sons, Kurt (Amanda) and Ryan (Kensey) Hering; grandchildren, Madelyn and Alexis Slaney, Bernice and  Audrey Hering, Ryder, Remi, Grayson, and  Reese Hering; brothers, Larry (Kari)  Kahl, Roger (Marie) Kahl, Tim (Mary) Kahl, David (Ann) Kahl and Randy (Kandy) Kahl; sisters, Bonnie (Steven) Hering and Bev (John) Whalen; and mother-in-law, Rosella Hering. She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Herbert Hering; nephew, Jeremy Hering; and step-mother, Darlene Kahl.

There are people you meet who just make the day brighter. Sherri was a proud Grandma of a “Swifty” (aka Bernice) and a fun person to collaborate and work with! My favorite day was the time she had to remain hidden from a student and was stuck in the staff bathroom at school. She would peek out and ask if it was safe to come out like a little kid. We laughed so hard that she got paid to be stuck there! May we all embrace a bit of Sherri and spend time having fun & laughing like she did! May you find peace in the happy memories as she was truly a gem.

God looked around his garden and found an empty place, He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. A limb has fallen from our family tree 🤍🪽🤍 Always loved- and so missed. Thank you for being the best Aunt ever- you have been a gift of love and we will never forget you and the light you brought here on earth! Rest in eternity and know your impact here was immense and full of so much love! One of a kind, Angel on earth, now in heaven 🤍
