Obituary
MONONA - Mary Joy Seitz, age 71, of Monona, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025. She was born on January 5, 1954, in Madison, the daughter of Leroy and Anna Mae (Wegner) Garity.
Mary graduated from Jefferson High School. She worked for the UW-Madison for many years. She was a longtime member of Monona United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Overture Center as an usher.
Maintaining family ties and friendships was important to Mary and she was intentional about connecting with her loved ones. She loved animals and rescuing cats, gardening, cooking and keeping up-to-date on politics.
Mary is survived by her cousins, Larry (Angie) Wegner, Susan (Herb) Wegner, Dawn Wegner Raqueno, Donald (Diana) Wegner, David Wegner, Bo Wegner, Kathy Warren, Linda (Jack) Corey, Robert (Tammy) Wegner, Matt Greenwood, Liz (Kenyon) Gerth, and Helena Greenwood; special family friends, Michelle Chaffey and partner Michael; and former husband, Jeffrey Seitz. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Anna and Leroy Garity; cousins, James Wegner, Frank Wegner, Dennis Wegner, Gene Wegner, and Diane Greenwood; and special family friend, Peggy Chaffey.
A memorial service will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
