Obituary

STOUGHTON - Audrey Mae Haessig, age 83, of Stoughton, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at BeeHive Homes of Oregon. She was born on April 8, 1943, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., the daughter of Cloyd and Eva (Kromenaker) Vallin.

Audrey graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961, where she had been a cheerleader, Student Council member, and Homecoming Queen. She went on to attend St. Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse, Wis., now known as Viterbo University, where she earned her nursing degree and began a remarkable career dedicated to caring for others. After moving to the Madison area, she met her soulmate, Ronald Wilfred Haessig.  They were married on November 25, 1967, in Wisconsin Rapids.

Audrey started her nursing career in Madison with the Red Cross and then took a position with UW Hospital, working in Oncology.  She also worked in a dermatology clinic and finally a research unit where she became the "charge nurse" at UW Hospital.  Audrey was a respected and celebrated nurse who dedicated more than 30 years to UW Hospital.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, she embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved downhill skiing, golfing, ice skating, tennis, playing cards, board games, traveling, dancing, and gardening to name but a few.

Audrey and Ron enjoyed their timeshare in Cancun, annual summer fishing vacations in Hayward, trips to their condo at The Wilderness in Wisconsin Dells, and frequent visits to their vacation home in The Villages, Fla., where they enjoyed golfing, line dancing and live music at the “square.”

Audrey was a lifelong sports fan, she especially enjoyed cheering for the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers basketball and football teams.

Audrey’s love for animals began in childhood and continued throughout her life, with cherished cats (she pushed them in her baby buggy as a child) and Vizsla dogs, bringing her endless joy.

In her later years, Audrey faced a long and difficult battle with dementia. Her husband, Ron, cared for her tirelessly at home for several years, surrounding her with the love and devotion that defined their marriage. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at BeeHive and Agrace for the loving care and dignity they provided to Audrey and her family.

Audrey is survived by her husband, Ron; daughters, Mya Yohr (Scot) and Ronda Kelly; son, Bill Haessig (Sarah), nine grandchildren, and countless extended family members and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Parish, 323 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, with Father Randy Budnar presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.  Immediately following the church service, guests are invited to join the family for a luncheon at Maple Tree Restaurant in McFarland.
