Obituary
MOUNT HOREB - Vivian Stone, beloved mother, teacher and friend, passed away peacefully in Mount Horeb, Wis., at the age of 94.
Born in Waushara Co., Wis., Vivian grew up with a love of books, teaching, learning and the natural beauty of her home state. She married her childhood sweetheart, Jim Stone, and together they built a life grounded in community until his passing in 1995.
For more than 40 years, Vivian taught English in Black Earth and Mount Horeb, where generations of students remember her warmth and wit. She believed deeply in the power of books and education, and she instilled in her students a lifelong curiosity and appreciation for language.
Outside the classroom, Vivian gave her time generously to the community. She worked at Little Norway, the Driftless Historium, the Mount Horeb visitor’s center and her church, where her welcoming and steady kindness touched many lives.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Jeni, and her son, Andy, who carry forward her love of learning, her sense of humor, and her deep compassion for others.
Those who knew Vivian will remember her as a woman of grace, patience, and quiet strength-a teacher not only by profession but by nature. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she influenced and in the stories she helped others to find and tell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
