Obituary
MADISON - Joseph Dale Pierce, born a Son of the South in Monroe, La., and a lover of the Midwest, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. His search for freedom, justice, and equality can be traced through the coalfields of West Virginia, New York City, and back to Chicago, Ill.
Dale was employed in the new computer tech industry booming in the Chicago area and carried his skills into Madison to American Girl.
Dale is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary (Mockrud) Pierce; his son, Joseph (Mary) Pierce of Aberdeen, Scotland; and grandchildren, Malcolm and Rowan. He is also survived by his brothers, Greg Pierce (Siobhan) of New Jersey and Mark Pierce (Estelle) of Georgia; niece, Rosa Loeb of Florida; nephew, Mathew of New Jersey; and son-in-law, Harvey Dym (Anne) of Madison. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Pierce of Chicago, Ill., and Joy (Dice) Tannenbaum of Jacksonville, Fla.; his sister, Catherine Pierce of Jacksonville, Fla.; and by Mary’s daughters, Anne and Amy Ghering.
