Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Taylor, age 67, of Madison, Wisconsin, originally from Hastings, New Zealand. Mark passed away on May 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born to Dion and Marianne Taylor, Mark spent his early years in New Zealand, where he developed a love for fast-pitch softball. His talent for the game eventually brought him to the United States, where he pitched for several teams, including The Farm, WTSO, Tamarack Bar, Mr. Roberts, and Avenue Bar.

Mark met his wife, Sue (McFadden) Taylor, and together they built a wonderful life, raising two daughters, Nikki and Brianna. He retired from the City of Madison Water Utility after a long and dedicated career.

Mark was a man of many passions. He loved music and taught himself to play guitar, often hosting “Concerts on Paus.” He cherished time spent enjoying a good drink, being outside on summer and fall days, and taking road trips with Sue and his sister-in-law, Kristi-it was always an adventure. He especially enjoyed the company of his “grand-dogs,” Millie, Goose, and Ollie.

Mark is survived by his wife, Sue; daughters, Nikki (partner Ross Wilson) and Brianna (spouse Brad Cisewski); his siblings, Steven and Jackie Taylor, and John Taylor; his parents-in-law, Neil and Lois McFadden; and his in-laws, Mike and Lavon McFadden, Steven and Lisa McFadden, Kristi Lazarz, Darin and Angie McFadden, and Mark Trainor. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dion and Marianne Taylor; grandparents, Gwen Winter, Harold and Rose Fearn; sister-in-law, Lynn Trainor; his beloved dog, Howard; and many dear friends who went before him.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the amazing team at the UW Carbone Cancer Center-especially Dr. Lawson, Dr. LaConte, and Nurse Angie-as well as the caregivers from Agrace, who provided Mark with comfort and compassion in his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at BREAKWATER, 6308 Inland Way, Monona, beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

Mark will forever be in our hearts. We miss him deeply-and we take comfort in knowing that one day, we’ll see him again.
