MOUNT HOREB - Mary Ann Powell passed away at St. Mary's Hospital on Friday, May 9, 2025. She was born on February 23, 1944, to Morris and Adeline (Paulson) Nelson.
Mary grew up in the Daleyville area, attending school there, and being the first class to graduate from the current Mount Horeb High School in 1962. She met David Powell while working in Madison and they were married on February 20, 1965, at Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville. David and Mary farmed and raised a family at the edge of Mount Horeb. Mary was a gifted talker and loved to ask you questions. She spent many hours in the tractor with David in her early years. She was a great cook and gardener, loved music and especially loved her grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, David; parents; brothers, Roger and Myron; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Melanie (Joel) Biermeier; son, Marc (Jessica); grandchildren, Michael Powell, and Jaedan, Aaron, Isaiah, Nathaniel and Jocelyn Biermeier; sister-in-law, Karen (Fred) Meyer; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Vicki) and Darcy; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Nelson.
A private family service will be held. Thank you to the staff at St. Mary's for the compassion given to Mary, to Gunderson Funeral Home and to Pastor John Twiton for being there for our family.
