Obituary
MADISON - Laura Ann Armstrong, age 72, of Madison, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on August 1, 1952, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Doris (Longmeyer) Webster.
Laura graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1970 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and her Master’s Degree in Counseling from University of Wisconsin-Madison. She worked as a public-school music teacher for 30 years in the Madison Metropolitan School District at Lowell Elementary, sharing her love of music with children in grades K-5. In honor of her dedicated service, her photo was posted in the Doyle building showing her during parent-teacher conferences, exemplifying how her classroom was more than a place of learning - it was a space of acceptance, encouragement and engagement in music.
Laura was a constant presence of grace and warmth. She gave freely of her time, energy, and heart, never asking for anything in return. She saw people as they truly were and listened without judgment - offering love not just in words, but in action of kindness. Her selflessness was felt deeply by everyone who knew her. She lived not for recognition, but for the joy of giving kindness and love to others, and making the world better in quiet, powerful ways.
Laura loved listening to classical music and was a skilled musician. She was able to play every instrument (although the flute tested her patience) and her favorites were always the piano and French horn. She enjoyed playing the piano for Sunday service at Eastside Lutheran Church.
Laura loved gardening and was very knowledgeable in identifying flowers. She was an avid reader and could read an 800-page book in under a day. As it grew more difficult for her to read, she began coloring for her grandchildren. Laura absolutely adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She was silly, lighthearted, and cheerful and could always make them and others laugh.
Laura’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her daughters, Tiffany (Chris) Huemmer and Kristyn (Eyner) Salcedo; grandsons, Blake Huemmer, Hayden Huemmer and Izan Salcedo; granddaughter, Valeria Salcedo; sister, Joan (Jim Faehling) Duerr; and dear friend, Sally. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Doris; and brother, Richard Webster.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
