Obituary

BELOIT / MADISON - Janice Violet Schaub, age 76, of Beloit, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born on January 21, 1949, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Donald and Frances (Sullivan) Schaub.

Jan graduated from La Follette High School with the Class of 1967 and then went on to UW-Whitewater. Known to many simply as “The Teach”, she enjoyed a career as an educator for 36 years, teaching both at Turner Middle School and Turner High School in Beloit. She belonged to Our Lady of Assumption Parish and Saint Vincent de Paul. She was known as everyone's favorite aunt and Godmother. When visiting Aunt Jan's pool, she made sure every guest had their favorite snacks, be they Lemon Ice, M&M's, Chex Mix, Brownies, Czech Beer, or Coke Zero. Jan was an avid reader, often finishing a book a day. She was a constant giver, always putting together her famous "Care Packages" and surprising you with confetti. She enjoyed playing the games Euchre and Foo. Jan enjoyed escaping to St. Maarten for an island getaway, to Las Vegas, to California, to National Parks, and many other family trips.

Janice is survived by her sister, JaNelle (John) Stransky; brothers, John (Jean) Schaub, James (Rita) Schaub; nieces, Jennifer (Frank), Karen (Joe), Sara, Carleen (Tom), Jayna (John), and Katie (Mark); nephew, Matt (Neshia); and great-nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jennifer Kay Schaub; and niece, Julie Marie Schaub.

A visit with Jan brought a feeling of lightness to my heart! I visited her with boxing gloves and other props in hand. She would laugh through a funny drumming exercise I asked her to do, then quickly say, “I didn’t like it, but you did , so that’s ok”! Jan’s boxing was always right on! We end our boxing classes with a “Cheesy Cheer so here is one for Jan! “Rock Steady Boxing - She jabbed with joy, hooked with hope, and left us all cheering her final victory!”

Jan was an ongoing loving spirit in my life and the lives of my family. She was family. She was one of my most endearing and long term friends and my daughter’s godmother. Jan will be remembered whenever we rake the leaves, swim in a pool, play games and celebrate holidays like Easter and Christmas. While I am heavy at heart and mourn her passing, I am confident she is at peace in heaven, smiling, and watching over all of us.

I was sorry to learn of the passing of Jan. She was a very special lady and her memory will live on in our hearts. She had the gifts of being a great friend to so many, a wonderful cook, hostess, and teacher. I have fond memories of working with her for many years at Turner. She will be missed by many!

Ms. Schwab was my typing teacher in 1973-74 at Turner High. I wasn’t the best typist, However, if I could get an A in her class, I would get a 4.0. So I lobbied Ms. Shaub for the A. I did extra credit and pleaded my case. She gave me the A. I have always remembered her for that kindness. I’m glad to read she had a good life.
