Obituary

STOUGHTON - Dennis Dale “Denny” Johnson, age 75, of Stoughton, Wis., passed away on July 14, 2025.

Denny was born in Stoughton on August 21, 1949, to Robert “Bud” and Lucille Johnson. He married his wife, Cathy Brenden Denio, in 1996.

He lived in the Oregon area all of his life, attending Oregon schools and graduating from Oregon High School in 1967. After graduation he attended MATC and received a barber’s degree. But he never pursued that career and instead went into sales, eventually selling meat. He worked at MPI for 36 years as a meat salesman.

Denny had a great work ethic and even as a youngster worked mowing yards and shoveling snow for people in Oregon. He also worked on his grandparents’ farm planting and harvesting tobacco. As a young man he loved hunting and fishing with friends. He participated in sports throughout high school and beyond. He played football, baseball and basketball for OHS. After high school he played and managed home talent baseball from 1968 to 1991.

Denny and Cathy have lived on the Johnson farm since 2000. He loved being at home and seldom left the Oregon area. Cathy did convince him to go on a few distant vacations. They traveled to Hawaii in 2005 and have many wonderful memories of that trip. Most of the trips were to follow the Badgers football team. Denny was an avid Badgers fan and attended all the home football and basketball games. He also loved the Packers and was able to go to many of their games.

Denny and Cathy enjoyed golfing together and Denny was on the Thursday night men's golf league at Foxboro. He also was able to enjoy fishing as he got older after they bought a vacation cabin up north. They were fortunate to be able to spend many happy times at the lake with family and friends.

One of Denny’s favorite times was spending time with his dog, Cody. He was often seen driving his gator around the farm with Cody sitting in the passenger seat.

Denny is survived by his wife, Cathy; children, Melissa (Craig) Palzkill and Mark (Marissa) Johnson ; step daughters, Nichole (Steve) Pfieffer, Ren'ee (Tom) Neal and Janelle (Nathanael) Buschmann; eight granddaughters; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille Johnson; and parents-in-law, Irving and Grace Brenden.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 12 noon on Friday, July 25, 2025. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Oregon.

Memorials may be made in Denny’s name to Agrace HospiceCare or Oregon Athletic Booster Club (O.A.B.C.) Attn: Matt Kingsley. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
