SUN PRAIRIE - Brian Joseph “Joe” Benson, age 58, of Sun Prairie, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on June 1, 1966, in Madison, the son of Virgil and Sharon (Ashard) Benson.
Joe attended La Follette High School. He married Carolyn Reis, on February 13, 2009, in Copper Harbor, Mich. Joe was employed as a fabricator and marble installer for Galar Industries for over 20 years. He also worked many summers for his family concessions throughout the state at county fairs. He was a life-time auxillary member and volunteer at VFW Post No. 9362 in Sun Prairie.
Joe and Carole enjoyed riding his motorcycle and snowmobiling together and had passion for going to the UP in Michigan. Joe loved watching Nascar and Wisconsin Sports - especially the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Joe was very patriotic. He loved all music and attending concerts. He loved being outdoors, working around the yard and mowing the lawn. He was fondly known by the neighbors as “Mowin’ Joe.”
Joe is survived by his wife of 16 years, Carolyn; brother, William "Bill" (Remick) Benson; sister, Susan (Dean Olson) Benson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Sharon; and brother, James.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025. A luncheon will follow at SUNDOWN SALOON, 57 S. Stoughton Road, Madison. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
