MADISON - Marilou Scallon (Jeffcott), age 79, of Madison, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at SSM Health-St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on January 1, 1946, in Madison, the daughter of James and Grace (Gruber) Scallon.


She worked for many years as a legal secretary, retiring from Axley Brynelson Law Firm, retiring in 2015.


Marilou was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a volunteer at VFW in Northern Virginia. She helped care for her neighbors and found solace in reading. Marilou loved spending time with her family, especially visiting all the local spots in Madison with them.


Marilou is survived by her son, Scott (Jeannine) Haak; grandsons, Dylan (Cara) Haak and Ryan Haak; and nieces and a nephew and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and James; and brothers and a sister.


A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, with Father Mark Foley presiding. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

Marilou was my legal assistant at Axley Brynelson Law Firm for many years. She was a remarkable part of our team — hardworking, dedicated, and tireless in everything she did. She set a high standard with her incredible work ethic, always pushing forward with determination and sharp attention to detail. Beyond work, her heart belonged to her family. She spoke often, and with deep love, about her children and grandchildren, who were clearly the pride of her life. Marilou also had a razor-sharp wit that kept us laughing and on our toes. She has been deeply missed at Axley since her retirement — for her loyalty, work ethic, and humor. Our deepest condolences to her family and we will be making a gift to the Alzheimer's Association in her name.

I remember Marilou very well. She worked for us at The Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission for several years. I was a commissioner at the time of her employment. She was a very good employee and a really fine person. She was very pleasant and great to be around. She always did whatever job she was asked to do and did it well.
