We have enjoyed Bernie's friendship for many years and especially here at Capital Lakes. His scientific insights, and good humor always appreciated. Martha and Chuck Casey

Bernie and I were inseparable childhood playmates . We lived in the same apartment house at 7714 Bay Parkway. We often explored and “played” in my Father’s medical office, which influenced both of us in terms of our future careers in science. Bernie followed me to SUNY Downstate where he earned the MD and I the PhD. Seymour Benzer was his early mentor. Seymour’s sister had an apartment near the Weisblums’, and got to know Bernie. He gave Bernie his own Chemistry set! Years later they collaborated in research. Both were stars. Evidence of a small world: I’ve been on the Faculty of Jefferson Medical College since 1867. One of our first female medical students, Carol Miller, married Seymour. She was one of our truly brilliant achievers. Carol Advised Seymour to use fruit flies to study the genome, and that set science on a new path that we explore to this day! Our connections are vast, but none as memorable as my friendship with Bernie —and his family.

Bernie was always a great friend of my mom, Mabel, and us Hokin kids. You lit up Sunday dinners at Sherman Ave. Your memory will always be a blessing!
