Obituary

BLUE MOUNDS - Heather Schoonover (nee Steele), 54, of Blue Mounds, Wis., died unexpectedly on April 14, 2025.

Heather was born in Madison on August 22, 1970, to Terry Carpenter (Mikk Petty) and Don Steele (Judi Macie). She spent her childhood in Madison and Oregon and graduated from Oregon High School. For a 20-year stretch in her career, she worked with her mother and brother, Shawn Steele, at three different businesses.

Everyone who knew Heather says she was the nicest person they have ever met. Heather always had projects going on at the house; she had many bins dedicated to crafting supplies as well as a woodworking set-up in the garage, with which she made many gifts for her loved ones. Heather was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for 13 years, where she built many community connections. Together, they volunteered at many places, including the Mount Horeb Senior Center, Humane Society, and food pantries.

Heather and Troy Schoonover were married on June 26, 1993, and have two loving daughters, Sierra and Mia. She was very dedicated to her family and loved to plan many trips, games, and other activities for them to enjoy together.

In addition to her parents, daughters, and brother, she is also survived by her mother-in-law, Sandy Franson; brother-in-law, Seth (Laura) Schoonover; sister-in-law, Hope Hefty; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.

Heather was preceded in death by her husband, Troy; grandparents, Clarence and Jean Carpenter and Fran and Tana Steele; uncle, Rick Carpenter; aunt, Susie Belshaw; cousins, Todd Belshaw and Dustin Tarkenton; and father-in-law, Allan Schoonover.

We will miss Heather every day and her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors (https://www.mthorebneighbors.org) or to Mia to support her through college (https://gofund.me/28e51684).

I am so sorry we haven't spoken in such a long time. You've been on my mind these past few weeks and I've been meaning to reach out. So many things kept distracting me. This morning I learned of your passing and I'm so devastated! I almost wonder if my spidey senses picked up that something was amiss and that's why I found myself thinking of you... I should have reached out and said hi. Asked what's up. You were such a great person, lovely co-worker, kind soul. I'm going to miss you dearly. I hope you're at peace. I love you Heather! Until we meet again... 💙💙💙

I am in disbelief. Devastated is not a strong enough word. I missed working with you and chatting with you about work, the kids, my next Halloween project, or just life in general. You were such a sweet, strong, and all-around amazing person, and knowing you're no longer here is beyond comprehension. Chris and I send all our love to your family during this difficult time.

Oh Heather, what a loss you have left. Some of my best memories were working with you every Sunday at HSA. Even with the challenging phone calls we took, it was so pleasant chatting with you about everything. I truly considered you a friend. Although I haven’t spoken to you recently, I always thought of you with a smile. Rest well.
