Obituary

STOUGHTON - Rodney Wayne Trunzo, 78, of Stoughton, Wis., passed away on April 11, 2025, in Stoughton.

Rod was born in New Eagle, Pa., on September 2, 1946, to James and June Trunzo. He attended Monongahela High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed at Truax Field in Madison, Wis. Following four years of service, he began his career at Wisconsin Bell, Inc. After retiring from the phone company, he continued to work at Christ Lutheran Church for several years, officially retiring in 2020.

Rod loved spending time in his shop as an avid woodworker. He also enjoyed puzzles, working in his yard and garden, and was a devoted fan of western and war movies. A creature of habit, he found comfort and joy in his daily routines.

Rod is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda (maiden name Aslakson); his children, Shelly (Glen) Beyers, Mike (Mary) Trunzo and Sara (Doug) Johnson. He was proud grandfather to Camryn and Reece Beyers, Jack and Maya Trunzo, and Hailey and Hannah Johnson; and brother to Patty Sangermano. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and June Trunzo.

Rod will be remembered with a visitation at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 County Highway B, Stoughton, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service at church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family, who will forward contributions to charities that held a special meaning to Rod.

Years ago, there were four families just starting their families who had Stoughton connections. Rod and Linda, Denny and Jean, Jan and Rick, and Kaia and Fred. They formed a card club and met often for many years taking turns at hosting. The kids loved playing together and having wonderful snacks to enjoy. Rod had a wonderful sense of humor and was an excellent card player. Fred Fry

So sorry to hear of Rodney’s passing. One of the many Trunzo cousins that I grew up with and will remember fondly. Rodney was a happy-go-lucky kid who was always joking with all of the cousins and neighborhood kids. I traveled to Stoughton with Rod’s mother, my loving Aunt June for Linda and Rod’s beautiful wedding. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Rod was a reliable fixture as a staff member at Christ Lutheran for years, treating the property as if it was his personal residence. Whether we were using the gym to serve a funeral luncheon or hosting the Skaalen Quilt Faire, we were always cognizant of the fact that we had to return the space to “Rodney Standards”. We all need a Rodney in our lives. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Rodney's passing. It's been many years since the New Eagle days! My brother Ken and Rodney graduated the same year and my dad Eugene and Uncle Jimmy were very close, too. I have fond memories of tea with my mom at Aunt June's. It was so good to read about Rodney, his pastimes and to learn of his children and grandchildren. Our memories keep our loved ones close always. I'm sure Rodney's family will treasure his memory. Deepest sympathy to all. Sincerely, Karen and Howard Johnston
